Get #Funding4Cycling into the Autumn Statement
CTC launches its new campaign to get #Funding4Cycling included in the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement. Take action by Friday 17 October!

Today (Thursday 09 October) CTC launched its latest campaign #Funding4Cycling in an effort to make sure that cycle funding is included in the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement happening on 03 December.

#Funding4Cycling was created following the Government’s inability to deliver the long awaited Cycling and Walking Delivery Plan (CWDP). A Cycling Delivery Plan was promised in autumn 2013 following the cross party support for the All Party Parliamentary Cycling Group’s Get Britain Cycling report issued earlier in the year. MPs were expecting to debate the draft Plan in the Commons on Thursday 16 October, however the document has yet to appear.

The Government’s cycling policy is like a bike with a slow puncture: it’s totally deflated and failing to make progress.”

Paul Tuohy
CTC Chief Executive

A key recommendation of the Get Britain Cycling report was the need for sustained funding of at least £10 per head annually. CTC believes that such funding is absolutely necessary for the Prime Minister’s "cycling revolution” to happen.

Criticising the Government delay of the CWDP’s publication, CTC sees funding as the “repair kit needed to get [cycle policy] rolling again”.

HM Treasury has opened a consultation period for public bodies and individuals to make known what they would like to see in the Autumn Statement. With the deadline for submissions ending next Friday on 17 October, CTC is now calling on supporters, who want to see a safer and more inclusive cycling environment, to sign up for its #Funding4Cycling campaign.

The campaign will send a letter to HM Treasury calling for the Chancellor to commit to insuring there is funding of £10 per head annually in his Autumn Statement. CTC will be making their case for cycling with a detailed submission to HM Treasury next week.
