As the Tour of Britain arrives in the county, Surrey based cycling charity CTC looks forward to the next big event – the Women's Tour

As the Tour of Britain comes to Surrey this week for the penultimate stage, CTC the Guildford based national  cycling charity is already looking ahead to 2014 when its team will race in the inaugural Women’s Tour of Britain.

Scheduled to take place in May 2014 the event will be a women’s elite five day international stage race

Team CTC’s Tamina Oliver, who has ridden for the team since its launch in January, is eagerly awaiting the event. “We as a team intend to be there. Having ridden in four international stage races over the past year with Team CTC, we all know that we can be competitive, race with the best in the world and showcase women’s bike racing.

Women can bring the crowds onto the streets as we did at this year’s Prudential RideLondon Grand Prix . This race is another step towards parity with men’s cycling.”

The girls have already backed Olympian Emma Pooley’s petition, alongside other high profile female cyclists urging women to be allowed to compete in the world’s most famous cycle race, the Tour de France.
