From Road Safety poster boy to an ambassador amongst students for CTC, the national cycling charity

His father worked for Sandwell Council, which meant along with other members of his family they often appeared in road safety publications. “At one time you couldn't go through the Sandwell area without seeing my photo plastered on the side of a bus reminding people to 'Belt up!' said Jonathan.

Jonathan is now in his third year at Reading University and has recently begun volunteering for CTC in his spare time. He explained how he got involved in cycle training.  “I started work for Dudley Council in 2009 as a Bikeability instructor. I thoroughly enjoyed this, having a very active, outdoor job was perfect for me, and after all, it was definitely a better job than most 16-year-olds have!  At the time, obviously I had to base my contributions to this job around my A-levels and college work.          
In 2011 I started instructing for Sandwell Council, and seeing a slightly different approach to the Bikeability delivery helped to develop my skills further. I mainly taught in primary schools and have the most experience teaching young children how to ride their bike safely on the roads.”
Jonathan who is studying for an English  Language BA will, along with offering cycle training for fellow students also acts as a volunteer communications officer for Reading’s CTC.
CTC Chief Executive Gordon Seabright said “Jonathan is a terrific example of the volunteering spirit so essential to an organisation like CTC.  His is a great story, and he has a unique track record in road safety campaigning, but across the UK there are thousands of CTC volunteers doing their bit to get Britain cycling, in all sorts of ways.  We really appreciate their efforts, even if they don’t all end up on posters like Jonathan!”
