The future of CTC

I am committed to the promotion of the cycle for leisure and transport. The charity status of the CTC will create challenges for campaigning, the provision of services and benefits to established and new members whatever their abilities.

To achieve our aims within the ever-changing political and socio-economic climate we must live within our financial means have efficient control of resources.  We need to consult with members and friends of cycling and to work with its staff to develop our skills base at all levels and to maintain and develop relevant membership services.

We need to increase our profile as responsible road users with the media, local, regional and national government to protect and promote our right to use the highways both on and off carriageway. We need to seek ways to promote cycling as a solution to transport, health, and environmental challenges by working to improve cycle access into and out of town/country by all transport modes for all types of cycling.

Things that I want to do

To help to produce a business plan that delivers the following: campaign (with others to promote responsible driving) development of our membership base, a relevant image of cycling, develop the skill set of CTC at national and local level, to encourage the provision and promotion of short-distance beginner rides. Fine tune the local group reorganisation to remove the ambiguities and to ensure that local groups are supported and are not marginalised.

Things that I have done

As a volunteer from local to national level I have served on many committees both within and without the CTC often acting as chair/secretary and trustee of a cycling charity. They range from helping putting the chair away to organising national cycling events: British Cyclist Touring Competition and National 400 and to Instigated CTC staff recruitment procedure; drafted Cycle Carriage on Trains policy, and developed regional constitution.

In the past acted as CTC representative with Bromley Council, now for City of Westminster, Royal Parks Agency; have contributed to consultations with British Waterways, Transport for London on the TfL Cycling Super Highways etc.

Now lead rides/walks with the CTC Central London, but have ridden with many DA’s (members group) in London/south east. Completed Paris-Brest-Paris, 24-hour time trial etc cycled approximately 250,000 miles since 1970.

Cycle toured in all counties of Great Britain, 23 countries and led 21 tours to Europe / USA.

DfT National Standard Cycle Instructor / Trainer / Cycle Mechanic for Dr Bikes for London local authorities and Royal Parks Agency. Have delivered courses to 2500 children/adults including special needs.
