Other tactics and strategies that could help strengthen the impact of your campaigns.

Campaigners should be alert to the potential destructiveness of misconceived cycling schemes. A poorly thought out facility that receives no use can be held up for years to come as an illustration of the futility of spending money on cycling.

The two best ways of preventing such schemes being launched are:

  • Getting and staying in close contact with local authorities so that your comments can be lodged before a scheme gains too much momentum.
  • Having positive alternatives to propose. It is worth composing a 'wish list' of sketched out schemes which can be tabled in this situation and which can also be proposed if budget becomes available.
