Maybe the way to honour Team GB’s Olympic cycling prowess is to start right now investing in UK cycling infrastructure."

‘Clear roads for cyclists on Sundays to improve health’ in The Times.

CTC’s policy co-ordinator Chris Peck explained CTC's desire for roads to be closed to cars on Sundays.

He told the Times ciclovías were “a really good way of sending out a clear message that streets should not just be for vehicles, and getting people active is a really important part of what we should be doing”.

He said that while some vehicle-free rides already take place in Britain, a regular event in big cities in the summer months would be “fantastic from a public health point of view”.

Open Olympic lanes to cyclists say MPs and CTC in The Times newspaper.

CTC’s policy co-ordinator Chris Peck added his voice to call to open all Olympic lanes to cyclists.

He told the newspaper: “The Government has been urging people to take to two wheels to avoid clogging the roads, but restricting them to only one lane of the road will put cyclists in more danger, particularly if they have to share it with lorries or other large vehicles.”

Every child in England is entitled to Bikeability training, but CTC tells The Times that of the 600,000 children aged 10-11, only about 250,000 had free training in the past financial year.

Councils have been accused of failing to claim millions of pounds in funding for children’s cycling, even as the Government commits more money to improve training and safety.

This year less than half of children in England and Wales will receive the free cycle training to which they are entitled by law, despite evidence that the courses help to save lives.
