Stevenage Cyclists are reversing summer time !
Whilst many of us may be still putting our clocks back over our cornflakes, 400 cyclists have already signed up to join in the challenge of cycling from Stevenage to Saffron Walden and back to mark the end of summertime.
Organiser Jim Brown said they have some interesting entries already “ We have a cyclist coming over from Tokyo to take part not to mention the family of Olympic cyclist Laura Trott ! You can still enter and there is even a shorter ride the Emit Lite for the less ambitious Sunday riders. We hope to break the record of 500 riders last year.”
You can find an entry form and more information on www.stevenagectc.org.uk
It’s too late to enter in advance now so print it off and bring it to the start by 9.30a.m. on Sunday morning.
The first wave of “Emitremmus” riders, the early birds, will be set off from Costello’s Café at the Sailing Centre in Fairlands Valley Park (SG2 0BL) by the Mayor of Stevenage, Councillor Jack Pickersgill, at 9.45a.m. The main start will be in waves from 10a.m. “Emit Lite” will follow at 10.30a.m.
The 101 kilometres (63 miles) route will take you through Aston, Benington, Whempstead, Dane End, Nasty, Westmill, Aspenden, Buntingford, Hare Street (control / refreshments), Brent Pelham,Clavering, Newport, Saffron Walden (control / refreshments), Great Chishill, Barkway, Reed, Therfield (control / refreshments), Sandon, Luffenhall, Weston and back to Stevenage. The “Lite” route goes direct between Hare Street and Barkway.
Emitremmus is an audax event with a lot of extras. It is part of the CTC tourist competition. Late entries are only £10. Much cheaper than many other challenge rides as Stevenage CTC are keen to encourage participation.
