Despite 'safety' concerns by officials, over 4,000 riders took part in the Pedal on Parliament ride in Edinburgh, while nearly 500 joined a Space for Cycling ride in Sheffield. Hundreds more joined rides in Newcastle and Aberdeen on 25 April.

Appeal against the sentence of a motorist convicted of killing a cyclist will be heard in August
Prosecutors challenging the five-year driving ban imposed on Gary McCourt on the grounds that the sentence was ''unduly lenient'' have announced that the appeal will take place on August 13th. The right to appeal was granted on 31 May following a campaign launched by CTC and Audrey Fyfe's family.

The Chair of CTC in Scotland, surgeon Mr Chris Oliver and his daughter Catherine Oliver, have almost completed an intense and gruelling 3,415-mile cycle ride across America in aid of international charity WaterAid. They are due to finish this Wednesday 28 June.

Scotland revises action plan for cycling
The refreshed Cycling Action Plan for Scotland
The Cycling Action Plan for Scotland (CAPS), first published in 2009, set out the ambitious vision for 10% of trips to be made by bike by 2020. Over a third of the time has passed, but Scotland's modal share has barely increased.
